ART, CULTURE AND SOLIDARITY

PRESERVE, ENRICH AND PASS ON HISTORIC AND ARTISTIC HERITAGE

SUPPORT FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF NOTRE DAME

The universal shock felt after the fire at Notre Dame was followed by an exceptional outpouring of generosity. The day after the fire, Bernard Arnault announced a donation of 200 million euros to help restore this jewel of French heritage. LVMH also sponsored a scientific research initiative led by the magazine Connaissance des Arts and the twice-yearly magazine on the restoration effort, La Fabrique de Notre-Dame, published by the public organization Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris. LVMH has right from the outset actively supported for this extraordinary undertaking, a showcase of extraordinary craftsmanship that draws on time-honored skills, coupled with invaluable and fascinating technological innovations. Hennessy, which owns the Celle forest in the Allier region dedicated to the supply of the cognac-maker’s historic cooperage workshop, donated 36 300-year-old oak trees to rebuild the frame of the historic spire.

PROTECTING AND PRESERVING NATIONAL HERITAGE

LVMH plays a major role in initiatives to preserve the national heritage of the host countries where the Group and its Maisons are present. The Château de Versailles, an icon of the magnificence and influence of French fine arts, has benefited from the support of the Group and its leading houses on several occasions: renovation of the Africa, Crimea and Italy rooms in 1993, the Château de Versailles park following the historic storm of 1999, the Queen’s Hamlet in 2018, and, most recently, the creation of the Perfumer's Garden supported by Maison Francis Kurkdjian. In Italy, Fendi and Bulgari have major patronage programs to help restore mythic historic sites, particularly in Rome. Fendi has helped restore the Trevi Fountain, the Temple of Venus and Rome at the Colosseum, as well as the Grotto of Diana in the gardens of the Villa d'Este, the Palace of Italian Civilization and the Villa Medici. Maison Bulgari has supported the renovation of the famous Trinité des Monts staircase and the equally famous Baths of Caracalla.

ENRICH FRENCH MUSEUMS OF NATIONAL TREASURES

The LVMH Group has on multiple occasions sponsored the acquisition of exceptional works of art, classified as national treasures, on behalf of museums and cultural institutions including  the Château de Versailles, the Musée du Louvre and the Musée Guimet. The first major patronage initiative in this domain was the acquisition of Jacques-Louis David's portrait of Juliette de Villeneuve for the Musée du Louvre in 1998. More recently, the extraordinary Book of Hours of François 1er and the "Basket of Strawberries" by J.B. Chardin joined the collections of the Musée du Louvre, and Gustave Caillebotte's "Boat Party" was given to the Musée d'Orsay.

SUPPORT ARTS PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH AND ENCOURAGE FUTURE TALENTS

LVMH patronage actions enable young people to experience the best of culture, in particular musical heritage. These programs encourage music education and practice of the arts, as well as support for the training and promotion of talented young artists.

With the "1000 Places pour les Jeunes" program, nearly 50,000 tickets were donated to enable students at Paris conservatories to attend the most prestigious concerts during the Paris season. And in supporting "Orchestre à l'École", the Group has enabled the purchase of 350 musical instruments to encourage young people to learn to play instruments throughout France. The LVMH "Discovery and Education" classes organized to coincide with the exhibitions supported by the Group have welcomed over 20,000 children. Thanks to the LVMH Young Artists Award, the Group has also awarded nearly 100 scholarships to students from art schools in France and around the world to allow them to further their training in the country of their choice.Young virtuosos have benefited from Seiji Ozawa's master classes through the Group's support of the International Music Academy, while the loan of Stradivari instruments from the LVMH collection has enabled Maxim Vengerov, Laurent Korcia, Kirill Troussov, Renaud and Gautier Capuçon and most recently Daniel Lozakovich to express the full extent of their talent on stages the world over.
