Château d’Yquem has announced the release of its 2022 vintage, which perfectly embodies the poetic elegy to the wine by French writer François Mauriac: "Summers of yesteryear continue to burn brightly in bottles of Yquem".
The weather in 2022 was marked by extreme heat and prolonged periods of drought, raising concerns but ultimately spawning a Château d’Yquem that is powerful, solar and exuberant.
Although relentless for both people and nature, the summer weeks of 2022 led to grape maturation that was at the same time astounding and promising. The outlines of an impending masterpiece became more apparent each day in the vineyards. Not until the morning of October 15 did the famous Botrytis cinerea noble rot begin to spread quickly and generously. Then, another episode of warmth and sustained southeasterly winds signaled the advent of a magnificent harvest.
The legend of Château d’Yquem 2022 was written in a fever that segued into passion, an anguish transformed into triumph. This vintage bears the promise of a wine with exceptional aging potential, introducing an exciting new interpretation of "Yquem time".
