Following the success of the immersive theater experience Au Bonheur des Dames (The Ladies’ Paradise), Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche is raising the curtain again with a new show entitled Entre Chiens et Louves(Between Dogs and She-Wolves), welcoming the acrobatic circus troupe Cirque Le Roux. Known for poetic productions includingThe Elephant In The Room(2015) andA Deer in the Headlights(2019) — nominated for the prestigious Molière theater awards in 2020 in the visual creation category — the company has created a distinctive visual signature with its stunning mix of cultures and aesthetics.
For this 2023 show, the co-production Entre Chiens et Louves proposes a subtle blend of circus arts, comedy and cinema around three characters who have lived in the same apartment in different eras, in 1850, 1960 and the present day. Despite their centuries of temporal distance, they share the difficulties they face as they forge ahead towards ineluctable change. A succession of scenes unfold with breathtaking balancing acts, acrobatic feats and contortions, against the backdrop of cleverly staged machinery.
Equal parts historical reverie and nail-biting thriller, the mélange of poetry and acrobatics shines a light on human relations, embodied by eight circus artists in a majestically pared down décor. The captivating atmosphere draws the audience into a dreamlike universe, both epic and tragi-comic.
Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from September 1 through December 30, plus a special New Year’s Eve show on December 31.
