To celebrate 100 years of excellence, Loro Piana has unveiled its first-ever exhibition, “If You Know, You Know. Loro Piana’s Quest for Excellence” at Shanghai’s Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) from March 22 to May 5, 2025.
This first invitation to a luxury house from the prestigious cultural venue honors Loro Piana’s commitment to innovation and to passing on unique savoir-faire.
Celebrating a century of passion and savoir-faire
Curated by Judith Clark, “If You Know, You Know” invites visitors to the heart of the Maison’s history and heritage. The immersive scenography spotlights the exceptional materials that have earned Loro Piana global renown, from raw fibers to exquisitely refined garments, along with its six-generation family legacy.
Loro Piana’s history is deeply interlaced with China, where cashmere was first produced, symbolizing the Maison’s journey of excellence. The exhibition pays tribute to these profound ties and examines the reciprocal influence between Chinese culture and Italian textile craftsmanship.
A sensory and artistic journey
Spanning over 1,000 square meters across three galleries with 15 rooms, the exhibition explores Loro Piana’s core values in a harmonious dialogue between rare materials, historical archives and textile creations. Artworks from the Sergio and Luisa Loro Piana Collection and the Pinacoteca di Varallo enrich the retrospective, underlining the bonds between art, nature and exceptional craft.
The immersive journey is conceptualized through interactive installations and sensory landscapes that showcase the origins of the most precious fibers, including cashmere from China, vicuna from the Andes, and Merino wool from New Zealand. Each is elevated in spectacular silhouettes, the fruit of meticulous savoir-faire and a never-ending quest for innovation.
Homage to textiles
One of the exhibition spaces is dedicated to the rigorous quality control process, showing Baby Cashmere ready for inspection under a giant microscope that magnifies the fiber 35,000 times. Loro Piana’s emblematic thistle motif is featured in a specially designed room, highlighting the role of the tool in softening coarse fabrics.
The exhibition concludes with a tribute to the Valsesia valley, the birthplace of Loro Piana, bringing together an immersive cinematographic installation and documents from the Maison’s archives illustrating its remarkable transformation since 1924.
Loro Piana’s exhibition “If You Know, You Know” is a compelling celebration of heritage, unwavering standards and savoir-faire, reaffirming the Maison’s status as an unparalleled benchmark in the world of luxury.
